This is Orville Wright as he tries to get out of the plane after suffering a crash. Perhaps you’re familiar with Wilbur, his brother. In December 1903, Orville lost a coin toss, which is why Wilbur became the first person to fly! The photo was taken in 1911, although Orville Wright crashed the plane three years before that. A part of the propeller fell off while carrying a passenger on an airplane and caused the aircraft to crash. The accident killed the first person to die in a plane crash, Lieutenant Thomas Selfridge.
