Renowned chef-restaurateur and humanitarian José Andrés announced in early August that he would be closing his Spanish-inspired restaurant, The Bazaar, located in the SLS Beverly Hills hotel. While the closure coincides with legal disputes between Andrés’ ThinkFoodGroup and the hotel’s owners, which are unrelated to the pandemic, the group’s statement blames the hotel company for “alleging defaults that were impossible to resolve while our employees were under shelter-in-place orders.” Also affected by the shutdown is Somni, the intimate 10-seat avant-garde tasting counter located behind The Bazaar—one of the few Los Angeles restaurants boasting two Michelin stars.
