In 1989, Elvis Presto took the stage as a magician and Elvis Presley impersonator. This happened at Super Bowl XXIII. He was accompanied by the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile and 2,000 dancers at the time. It was an attempt to lure in viewers, and it kind of worked. Dan Witkowski, the producer of the show, said, “[A]ll of the baby boomers were trying to cling on to the past and so it just all kind of clicked from that standpoint.”
