Known for her roles in movies like Thelma & Louis and A League of Their Own, Geena Davis was always playing empowered women, and for good reason. Having been in some roles that really resonated with women, I became hyper-aware of how women are represented in Hollywood,” she once said. So, it’s not surprising that she’s now an activist. She’s sponsored research that discovered that women only make up 17% of crowd scenes in movies. She also founded the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media in 2006 to promote gender equality and balance in the media.
