The Vietnam War Memorial
In this photo, there is a good reason for the emotional reaction of “Doughboy Joe.” He was 86 years old when he took it. During his time as a World War I soldier, he was dressed in the uniform he wore. In November 1982, Joseph F. Ambrose showed up in his full uniform at the Vietnam Memorial. He carried the flag that draped his son’s coffin, who had died thirty years before in the Korean War.
