The Gettysburg Address
On the cemetery grounds of the fallen, Abraham Lincoln may be seen delivering the Gettysburg Address. He summed up the Constitution’s objectives in more than two minutes, the philosophy behind the Declaration of Independence, and the reason we are fighting. Unfortunately, his speech was received poorly. After the previous speaker went on for over two hours, the crowd was already dazed from the heat. Nobody applauded Lincoln, and he reportedly said that “it fell on the audience like a wet blanket.”
