When it fell apart and exploded in the sky, the Space Shuttle Challenger was just 73 seconds into its 10th flight. NASA’s investigation revealed that the crew was likely to be alive for a few minutes after that and attempted to regain control. Christa McAuliffe was a member of the team. After she won a contest with more than 11,000 applicants, she was supposed to be the first American teacher in space.
