Peru celebrates its indigenous citizens’ beauty, much as Chile does, but this is not what their ideal is. What is admired and synonymous with riches is the Western view of beauty. The standard of appearance values a western look of blonde hair and blue eyes of tall, skinny people. They fear the idea that their skin may darken, and many of those who work outdoors cover up from head to toe to prevent any development of darkening melanin, showing a multitude of cultures and different origins in Peru.
