Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere first met at a barbecue that was hosted at the residence of Herb Ritts in 1988. Cindy was awestruck by the crowd, especially Richard Gere. Four years after this fortuitous meeting, the two decided to marry in Las Vegas, where they exchanged aluminum foil rings at the altar. As for the breakup, numerous factors led to their divorce in 1995. It was speculated that both were gay and that their Marriage was just to fool the public. However, Cindy denied the rumors by saying, “Considering the number of women he’s associated with, when does he have time to be gay?” After a few years, Cindy confessed that the two of them did not spend much quality time with each other. Another factor was the age gap of 17 years between them. In her interview with Oprah last 2013, Cindy said, “I was still 22 and at 22 — as a young woman — I was kind of still figuring out who I was and what I wanted to be, and he was already 37. I just think your twenties for women is such a time when you’re starting to come into your own and feel your power and connect to your inner strength and it’s hard to do that — it’s hard to change — in a relationship, because what one person might have signed up for, all of a sudden, you’re not that anymore. I think I was more willing at 22 to be, like, ‘Okay, I’ll follow,’ but then you start going, ‘Well, I don’t want just to follow — I want to lead sometimes, and I want to walk side-by-side sometimes.’ I think part of the problem in our relationship was that we were a lot of other things, but I don’t know if we were ever friends — like peers, because I was young, and he was Richard Gere. And then, as I started kind of growing up and growing into myself — it’s hard to change the nature of a relationship once you’re already in it.”
