Biba Restaurant
Bologna-born Biba Caggiano revolutionized the restaurant scene in California’s capital when she opened her namesake restaurant 33 years ago. Caggiano, who later became a celebrated cookbook author and TV food personality, passed away last August. Her family had already been facing challenges in managing the restaurant before the pandemic hit. In a statement on the Biba website, signed by Caggiano’s husband and daughters, they announced, “Our last day was Friday, May 8th, 2020,” adding, “Our beloved restaurant community has been shuttered, and with the uncertainty of the future, we are unable to weather this storm.”
