Meidung
Despite the fact that the Amish have many limitations on their activities and lifestyles, they are surprisingly tolerant and encourage people to make their own decisions. There is, however, a framework in place for those who break the rules. It’s essentially the Amish equivalent of a “time-out,” and if somebody is found to be breaking their ethics code, there will surely be consequences. Meidung is one of them, which signifies the person is despised by the community.
