Allen Toussaint – $3 million
This singer-songwriter was born in Gert Town, Louisiana. Allen Toussaint is hailed as one of the most prominent R&B musicians in New Orleans. He got his start in the ‘50s and has been called a “backroom figure” thanks to his work in composition and songwriting. This is the man who brought us hits like “Working in the Coal Mine,” “Mother-in-Law,” “Java,” and “Fortune Teller.” It would be incomplete if we did not mention “Right Place, Wrong Time” and “Lady Marmalade.” Apparently, he learned how to play the piano from an elderly neighbor. His father was a fellow musician who played the trumpet as well!
