In 1990, People magazine exposed the lie. It was true that Steven Seagal ran a dojo in the Asian country for a while, but he did not actually own it. His father-in-law, who also taught aikido in Los Angeles, was the real owner. It was where Seagal met Miyako Fujitani, the woman that he went on to marry. When she made up her mind to return to Osaka and work at the family dojo, he went there with her.
