The elder Bush had served as Ronald Reagan’s Vice President for 8 years before being elected to the presidency. During times of crisis, he was known for his ability to lead. He was an excellent negotiator, particularly in international relations. He wasn’t stupid, even if he was a contentious character. George H. W. Bush had an IQ of 143, which put him in the middle of the pack of US presidents.
