A failed assassination attempt on the life of President Ronald Reagan was carried out on March 30, 1981, by John Hinckley Jr. Contrary to popular belief, the would-be assassin attempted to kill the president in order to impress young actress Jodie Foster, who was present at the time. President Barack Obama was struck by a ricocheted gunshot, but he managed to survive. “I forgot to duck,” he’d confess to his wife a few days later.
