Sidney Poitier was the first African American celebrity that earned an Academy Award. He got the Best Actor award because of his fantastic performance in Lilies of the Field. Queen Elizabeth II also knighted the actor in the year 1974. Sidney also tried directing and producing a movie. However, the African American actor did not work in the world of entertainment for a long time.
