When she heard a car unexpectedly coming up the driveway, she sprang to her feet and grabbed the handle. She struggled to come up with a plan of action as her heart sank. She rapidly pulled the staircase down, climbed up, and pushed it back up since she didn’t have enough time to go by the rear door.
