Why It Did Not Decay
It turns out that chestnut trees come with desiccant and tannin. These work together to absorb any moisture in the area. Kristine said that this was a special feature of the chestnut tree. This has stopped nature from going about it as usual. That is why the body of this dog lasted longer than others. There was not enough moisture for the microbes to eat the body tissue! This is not enough to explain how it stayed preserved. After all, there were also scavengers around that could smell a body from a distance.
