The boys simply pretended that nothing was going on. They responded innocently when asked and said they were playing ball. By answering this, they hoped that the man would leave them alone. However, the man didn’t believe a word that came out of their mouth. He’d seen more than enough to know what was going on in that park. He knew full well that they weren’t simply playing ball.
