For many Americans, weight loss is a major goal. Men and women are constantly fighting to get control of their weight. A young American couple experienced the difficulty of becoming extremely overweight, and then what it took to turn their bodies and lifestyles into healthier gear. This is the story of how Lexi and Danny Reed, by their own willpower, shaped themselves into fit, healthy, and healthy beings.
Take Out Food
Lexi and Danny Reed were very similar to a lot of American couples. They met, fell in love, and decided to marry. They granted themselves a carefree lifestyle and enjoyed eating junk food and eating out. When the two met, Lexi was already overweight, and their eating habits got worse after they settled down.
Taking On The Challenge Together
Lexi Reed was only 25 years old and weighed an incredible 485 pounds. Her husband, Danny, weighed 280 pounds, and it seemed that their weight gain was nowhere near a stop. Many day-to-day activities, such as riding a bike or even just walking, have become difficult tasks. The couple decided it was time for a life-changing experience after their first wedding anniversary in 2016.
Enabling One Another
The couple began dating in 2007, and they did very little to stop each other from over-eating without realizing it. They basically just allowed each other to have bad eating habits. They ate at restaurants all the time, or ordered take-outs and lounged on the sofa while watching tv. They got back on quickly, no matter how much weight they managed to lose.
A New Year’s Resolution
Having a resolution every New Year is not that unusual, and it’s even more common not to keep it. But in 2016, they became an exception to the rule when Lexi and Danny decided they were going to change their lives.
Their friend heard about their resolution and decided to step in. This friend resolved a measurable one and dared Danny and Lexi to avoid alcohol and cheat meals for 30 days. The couple took on the challenge and then even signed up for a gym membership. But would they actually use the membership of that gym? So many Americans are registering but never go.
Taking Baby Steps
Talking about Lexi’s cardio classes, she recounted, “I tried to do high-intensity cardio, but I wasn’t able to.” Although she was completely inspired to lose weight and get fit, she realized it would take time. Even if it meant she needed to take breaks during the 30-minute sessions, she convinced herself that she wouldn’t give up, no matter what.
Seeing The Progress
Lexi began to notice, with her undying devotion to her cause, that all the hard work she was doing was beginning to pay off. At the rate she was going, she was managing to lose about 20 pounds every month. But at some point, her weight loss began to plateau, and she needed to fire it up. “My weight loss had slowed, and I had picked up the intensity of my workouts and adjusted my calories to continue losing consistently.”
While many people really want to lose weight or get fit, they don’t make it a priority. As a result, they don’t get around to the gym, they don’t get healthier, and they feel worse about themselves. Lexi wasn’t going to let that happen to her. Speaking of her gym routine, she said, “I just kind of try to set it up like a business meeting. I am my own boss, and I can’t cancel.”
But Lexi wasn’t trying to lose weight alone; Danny, her husband, was right on board with her. Their shared goal was to get into shape and become healthier. They made sure to support each other constantly and help each other through the difficulties they would encounter.
What About Danny
Although Lexi had more weight to lose, we mustn’t forget about Danny’s weight loss journey. Danny used to weigh 280 pounds, and now he weighs only 190 pounds. For him, it was a wake-up call to get off the sofa and start to get fit. He said, “At first, the idea didn’t sound great because it was always good going home, sitting down, eating, and not having to worry about anything.”
This couple’s story began to hit social media, and their story instantly became viral on the internet. They lost a total of 400 pounds in just two years! They went to their Instagram accounts to share photos of how their progress looked, and soon people were following them. People Magazine featured them in their “Half Their Size” issue. They were eventually invited to talk shows because people wanted to hear their stories.
While Lexi was on Megyn Kelly’s show, she explained that she felt she and Danny were not living their lives to the fullest, “We were just fed up with spending so many nights sitting on our couch binge-watching television, mindlessly eating all our calories.” But going out to regular places was also hindered by their weight.
Lexi had always loved the idea of visiting Harry Potter World at Universal Studios, but her obesity was holding her back. She didn’t believe that she could climb the rides in the park with the weight she was carrying.
Becoming A Mom
Lexi wasn’t just worried about going to the park, but something more serious. One day, she and Danny wanted to become parents, and she knew it would be dangerous for her and the baby because of her size. “I knew I could never be a mom at the size that I was, and that was the one thing that motivated me.”
Meanwhile, Megyn Kelly asked Lexi about the greatest difficulties she faced daily, and Lexi replied, “I would wake up in the morning, my joints would be sore, I would be tired, I would be out of breath quickly.” She realized that this was a major problem for someone at the young age of 25.
Changing Their Lifestyle
Lexi proceeded to explain how small changes encourage more positive changes and how everything can be achieved. “We started changing the foods that we were eating… we stopped eating out for every single meal, and we made healthy versions of the food that we were craving. We started moving more and walking and going to the gym just five times a week.” Their lifestyle had become penetrable.
The world began to watch Lexi and Danny improve their lives. Instagram was the main platform used by a couple to spread their lifestyle changes to the world. Lexi’s account, called “Fatgirlfedup,” had become a place from which others could draw their motivation. More than 705,000 fans follow Lexi, constantly uploading photos and motivational quotes to share her message.
Looking And Feeling Good
Most critics said that, for superficial reasons, the couple only pursued weight loss, but Lexi responded that it was nothing like that. Her reply was, “I’ve always been a super happy person. Like I loved myself even at 485 pounds, but just to be able to wake up and do whatever I want to do and go wherever I want to go… I don’t feel like I’m a prisoner in my own body anymore.” Looking good was a natural outcome, but the goal was to feel good.
Love In All Shapes And Sizes
But what’s more marvelous about Lexi and Danny Reed is that their love from the get-go was strong. It only got stronger as they teamed up to face their dangerous, unhealthy lifestyle. In an Instagram caption, Lexi best described it, saying, “He (Danny) never saw me as my size, asked me to change, or made me feel like anything other than beautiful,” she continued, “He treated me the same way at 485lbs than he does at 182lbs. Love doesn’t have a size or weight limit.”
Lexi’s Weight Loss Advice
For anyone trying to lose weight, many people want to know what Lexi’s advice is. She recommends, “Start small. Small changes add up to big results.” We often try to make resolutions and goals that seem right but become impossible to overcome.
Gaining Not Losing
We can only think about “losing weight” when it comes to these two, and many like them. Lexi, however, puts a little twist on it, and she explains that it’s not all about losing; according to her, there is a lot to gain. She wrote on her Instagram page, “It’s not about the weight that you lose but the life that you gain.”
The idea that weight loss is not a race is one point that Lexi really wants to drive home. It might seem like something that could happen overnight, but that’s not the case. “I am human, and it’s so important to remember at the end of the day, this is a journey, not a sprint. This is a lifestyle, not a diet,” she posted on Instagram.
As couples pair up to achieve a mutual goal, it usually does good things for their relationship. This was no different, and the Reeds felt the positive shift it had for them. Danny explained in an interview, “This helped our relationship a lot, and that is pretty cool… Us being able to do stuff together has brought us closer together.”
Addicted To Being Healthy
Even after being so committed to the challenge of losing weight, Lexi faced an adversary at many turns. For better or for worse, doing the same activities continuously causes them to become habits. “Once I saw the results, it kind of became more of an addiction for me,” Lexi said.
No Liposuction Required
Some people asked Lexi if she had liposuction surgery, but she denied it. She said, “You don’t have to have surgery, you don’t have to pay crazy amounts of money just to eat healthily or to have a trainer like just move! Start walking.” Liposuction might lead to weight loss, but there are healthier ways to go about it.
Lexi admits that she didn’t believe she would become this popular with more than 750,000 followers on Instagram today. “I just would be happy if like maybe ten people would follow me that were my friends. I didn’t think anybody would follow me. It’s just crazy.” Although on so many levels, people have been impacted by her message and transformation.
“It’s not even about that, just for people to come and be like, ‘You really inspired be. Because of you, I went to the gym today’ or, ‘because of you I’ve started to diet, and I’ve lost 20 pounds, and I can do this now.’” For what she does, Lexi doesn’t want any special credit; she just wants people to believe in themselves.
Lexi said people should not be so engrossed in the numbers on the scale, “Always remember to love yourself because, at the end of the day, a scale is just a tool & you are worth more than a number.” It can cause great harm to one’s self-esteem to obsess over the numbers on a scale.
Cooking VS Eating Out
We all know it is tough to break a bad habit. Danny and Lexi had an extraordinary relationship with food, and to break away from it took a lot of work. She explained, “The hardest part of our journey was changing our relationship with food. To go from eating out for every single meal to teaching myself how to cook every single day to meal prepping together, it was a very drastic change.”
Not Paying Attention
The couple responds to questions put forward by the public upon starting their own YouTube channel. One of the responses the couple gave about their weight gain as they were dating went like this, “I don’t think we realized in actuality how large we were because I look at progress pictures and I’m like, ‘That was me. That doesn’t even look like me.’ We didn’t feel like it was a problem.”
Their YouTube channel is called ‘Fatgirlfedup,’ just like Lexi’s Instagram account. The “vlog-style” videos that the Reeds upload are all about weight loss, with more than 30,000 followers. They recently attended the Los Angeles SAG Awards.
It Takes Hard Work
In contrast to many commercials and advertisements, it is more than just taking a pill to lose weight healthily. Danny and Lexi insist that losing weight does not have a shortcut but a process.
When you take a look at the first picture of this couple and compare it to this one, it seems impossible that we’re looking at the same people. However, what it does show us is that it is possible and the transformation they have been through.
A quick visit to a Chinese restaurant meant they would eat much more than they were supposed to. For the couple, it was common practice to eat more than 7 plates of food … For each! Usually, they would order chips, chicken, ribs, a variety of meat dishes, and most of their food would come deep-fried.
Loved For Who She Was
True love can sometimes be part of the issue because Danny didn’t see the weight problem after they had done this.“When Danny & I met at 16 years old, I weighed over 300lbs. He never knew me as any less & never asked me to change,” Lexi said in an interview.
Danny and Lexi made sure to cook instead of eating out, even if they craved fast food. Lexi recalled, “For the first month, I didn’t eat out at all, I made everything, and I don’t even like cooking, so I was constantly learning. I was cooking foods I enjoyed and taking foods that I had liked before and making healthy versions of those meals. I didn’t feel deprived and could still eat the foods I wanted.”
Walking Was Difficult
For every single daily activity, being overweight has really taken its toll. Lexi used this as a springboard to motivate her to be healthy.”I wanted to be able to go on hikes and walk with my husband, to go on the bike and rollercoasters. I wanted to do all the things you want to do that you can’t imagine when you are overweight. For me, even walking was a chore.”
Waiting For Results
Results couldn’t be seen at the beginning of the struggle to lose weight, so it’s not inspiring for anyone. “Obviously, you didn’t gain all that weight overnight, you’re not going to see results right away, and you’re not going to lose all your weight in a day,” Lexi reassured those starting the journey.
Finally, A Sign
It took three weeks before the change was even noticeable. But when she saw progress, it was at that point that she realized that it could be achieved. “It took 3 weeks before I really saw results. Once I did, I became addicted.”
Straining The Relationship
The two became more and more distant from each other before their lifestyle change. They did not interact with each other, even though they were sitting together, eating take-out and watching TV. Lexi explained it best, “We would spend so many nights, eating and watching Netflix and not talking.”
No Knowledge, Just Will
It takes a huge decision to do what they’ve done, but you can do anything when you feel like your life’s on the line. Lexi said, “I just decided enough was enough. I was ready to change my life. I decided I was going to work hard for it every single day. I didn’t have a trainer or a meal plan.” She went on, “I didn’t know about nutrition, cooking, I had no surgery, took no pills. I was just your average girl who was fed up and wanted to change.”
One Day At A Time
Lexi wanted to learn more about herself along the way, aside from wanting to lose weight. “I was willing to learn every single day. I focused on a single day ahead of me, not the 300 pounds I knew I had to lose because that would have overwhelmed me. It made me feel like I didn’t have such a long way to go.”
Lexi’s Diet Plan
Some may not agree with Lexi’s dietary plan, but it worked like a charm for her. Her daily plan is 30 Minutes Cardio (Elliptical Machine), Breakfast – 3 Pieces of turkey bacon, 2 Large eggs, Snack 1 – Protein shake, Lunch – Salmon patties, asparagus, broccoli cottage cheese, Snack 2 – Banana + Almond butter, 30 Minutes Cardio (Elliptical Machine), Dinner – Turkey Burgers (Buns – Honey Wheat Sandwich Thins, Cheese – Fat-Free), Steamed Broccoli/Cauliflower, Mushrooms.
Saving Their Lives
In fact, being so severely overweight can result in death. So when the couple decided they were going to become healthy, they were actually saving their own lives. “There are no words to explain the feeling of saving your own life,” Lexi said. “Going into 2018, I have nothing but a newfound happiness for this life I am living. I no longer am a prisoner in my own body, and instead of just existing in my own life, I’m finally alive. Every day I wake up is a blessing.”
For them, the experience has meant so much that Lexi wants to become better educated in nutrition. She decided that she wants to go to school to study the subject.
When Lexi looked back at her past self, she noticed the size of her bosom. She laughs at how big her chest was and how she needed bras of their own special size.
All of us know that love and support can inspire a person to do more and be better. Lexi shares how happy she is to have Danny and the people around her with such positive energy and support. “Losing weight is hard & even harder when those you love don’t support you. I’m one lucky girl to have someone who always loved me no matter what size & saw who I could be.”
Get The Right People
Since Lexi has never lost weight, it has given her confidence. It also gave her the courage to try things she would never have thought about trying. Recently, she had just learned how to ride a dirt bike and was thrilled. “Riding a dirtbike! Never in a million years did I ever think that my weight loss journey would take me here, or I ever would get to do something that [Danny] loves so much.”
Leaving The Comfort Zone
According to Lexi, a good replacement for a meal is a protein shake. She swears by them and makes sure that she consumes at least once a day. It doesn’t have to be served as a meal; it could be between bigger meals as a “mini-meal.”

Setting High Goals
And while some may advise against it, Lexi believes that the key to success is to set high goals for yourself. She believes the secret to beating the moments when you have zero motivation is to pair yourself up with someone. For her, Danny is that person, and for him, she’s that person.
