August 22 marked the final night for this well-reviewed offshoot of a restaurant by the same name in Utrecht, The Netherlands. Elize’s chef, Leon Mazairac—a culinary star in Holland—was praised by *Orlando Weekly* in March as “one of the city’s best new chefs.” Despite the acclaim, his menu of modern European small plates couldn’t withstand the challenges posed by COVID-19. “The large economic impact resulting from the coronavirus pandemic has made it impossible for us to sustain operations,” the restaurant’s owners announced on the Elize Facebook page.
