The closure of the legendary K-Paul’s in mid-July stands out as one of the most significant COVID-related restaurant losses. Established in 1979 by chef Paul Prudhomme and his wife, Kay, this influential Cajun restaurant quickly became a must-visit destination in Crescent City, with lines forming nightly outside. K-Paul’s sparked a nationwide fascination with Cajun cuisine, particularly with its iconic dish, blackened redfish. After Kay’s death from cancer in 1993 and Prudhomme’s passing in 2015, the restaurant continued under the management of Prudhomme’s niece, Brenda Prudhomme, and her chef husband, Paul Miller. However, following several mandated closings and reopenings earlier this year, they issued a statement on July 13, “regretfully announcing the permanent closure of K-Paul’s Louisiana Kitchen.” Miller explained to *NOLA.com* that “the business has been bleeding through this, and you can only bleed so much before you have to stop it.”
