When you’re watching a movie, it can be all well and good, but once you get a glimpse of a celebrity you love, it makes the movie so much better. Celebrity cameos can take a movie from being okay to being great in a matter of seconds. Let’s take a look back at some amazing celebrity cameos that we almost forgot about!
Back in 2001 when the iconic movie Zoolander came out, fans were pleasantly surprised when David Bowie himself appeared in a scene where he played himself. He shows up to challenge Derek Zoolander and Hansel to an old-fashioned walk-off. This is when the two main characters want to see which of them is the better model. Who better to judge such a challenge than the legendary rock singer?
If you’ve seen Thor: Ragnarok, you’ll remember seeing Matt Damon if you were paying close attention. He was in the play Loki decided to stage about all of his triumphs and his heroic “death”. Eagle-eyed fans immediately noticed the famous actor playing the fake Loki. It turns out that the cameo was a very carefully guarded secret that the cast and crew had to hold on to until the movie came out.
If you watched Men in Black II, you must have noticed Michael Jackson playing a small role as an agent. He was negotiating a peace treaty between aliens. It turns out that the director, Barry Sonnenfeld, wanted Michael in the first Men in Black movie so he could play an alien, but the singer refused the role. As we now know, the director later succeeded in booking the famous star to play in the second movie.
Another Marvel cameo fans won’t soon forget is Elon Musk himself appearing in Iron Man 2 – as himself. The CEO of Tesla and SpaceX made a brief appearance when he goes to speak to Tony Stark at an event. Tony even complimented Elon’s “Merlin engines”. After thanking him, Elon says: “I’ve got an idea for an electric jet!”. The whole cameo, despite the fact that it was only for a few seconds, was pretty hilarious.
Mike Myers made an appearance in Bohemian Rhapsody that almost came full circle. We’ll explain: In the film, he plays EMI Executive, Ray Foster, and says this line: “No one is going to be head-banging in the car to ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’!” The line actually references a scene in a movie of his, Wayne’s World. In that movie, his character famously does head-bang in the car to ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.
Brad Pitt made a split-second appearance in Deadpool 2 when he played a superhero named the Vanisher. As you might have deduced from the name, his superpower is invisibility. At least, it was until he got electrocuted and his face was revealed. Initially, Brad wanted the role of Cable, the main antagonist in the movie, but he had to back down due to scheduling conflicts. All the same, viewers were more than happy to see the actor when he made the brief appearance.
When watching Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, many eagle-eyed fans were delighted to see the actor who played Jack Sparrow’s uncle – Paul McCartney himself. The famous Beatles member actually sings an old song of the sea, ‘Maggie Mae’ which was featured on The Beatles’ album, Let It Be. In fact, another relative of Jack Sparrow was a famous rock star too, but more on that on the next page.
This cameo is rather meta, and we’ll explain why. Keith Richards, the famous Rolling Stones guitarist, played Captain Jack Sparrow’s father in two of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. What’s interesting is that Johnny Depp, who plays Jack Sparrow, initially based his character on the rock star. Well, once Johnny asked Keith about appearing in the movies as his father, he was on board almost immediately.
Long before he became the President of the United States, Donald Trump made movie and TV show appearances here and there. One of his cameos was in the movie ‘Home Alone 2″ Lost in New York’. Many fans, despite remembering the movie well, tend to have forgotten about Donald’s brief cameo. He appeared in a scene that was filmed at his own Plaza Hotel, where he would give Kevin directions.
You might not have known this but Amazon’s CEO, Jeff Bezos, has actually appeared as an alien Starfleet official in Star Trek Beyond. It sounds random – that’s because it is. The billionaire is a longtime Star Trek fan and begged to be in one of the movies for years. Finally, his plea was heard and he got a small role in one of the movies. We’re sure that must have been an epic moment for him.
