The Wizard of Oz (1939)
Are you surprised to see that The Wizard of Oz has a spot on our list? It turned out to be quite a disappointment for MGM when it came out. Now a classic, it did not make as much as the company expected and cost them $1.1 million. These days, this amount would be equal to $15 million. When it was rereleased the following decade, it finally got the recognition that it deserved. Aside from that, it was an instant hit when it came out on TV in 1956.
