It is also one of the most popular songs of the twentieth century. Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Madonna, Lady Gaga, and others have all covered it over the years. It has always taken place before the New Year’s Eve Time Square Ball Drop since 2005. It was ranked No. 30 on the Recording Industry Association of America’s 365 Songs of the Century list. He claimed that Yoko Ono contributed a lot of the content and lyrics to the album not long before his assassination. She was finally given credit for co-writing it in 2017.
