Unfortunately, just five years into Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s marriage, it was clear that their union was failing. The Queen and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, had held a peace meeting between the two, but it was in vain, and the two eventually split up. Soon after, reports of their marriage problems were made public, shocking many people both within and outside the royal family. In the hopes of many that Diana and Charles would reconcile, they divorced in 1996.
