Growing Population
In 1920, there were around 5,000 Amish in the United States. In today’s money, this translates to $300,000. Furthermore, the majority of the growth occurred in the last three decades, when the Amish population was only 84,000 in 1984. The increase is ascribed to a religious belief that larger families are required by God, as well as the more practical necessity of increasing their farm crew.
