How To Productively Work On Vacation

Prioritize Your Tasks Before Leaving

Before you head off to your long-awaited vacation, it’s so important that you know what work you will be doing. You also need to remember that every minute of your time on vacation should not be spent doing work. Experts suggest that you make a list of all the tasks you need to do as well as the deadlines. Additionally, take some time beforehand to see what is crucial and what can wait until you get back to the office.

Have A Schedule

Once you know exactly what you will be doing, now is the time to create a schedule. Of course, you don’t want your family to feel neglected. So it’s best to dedicate a few hours as possible to your work. Some prefer to get the hours in as early as possible in the day, while others may choose to enjoy the day and only get to their tasks towards the end of the day. You need to do whatever works best for you and your schedule. Additionally, try and stick to your schedule as much as possible, but obviously, leave room for change.  After all, you are on vacation, it’s important to make the most the most of it, right?

Check The Internet Before-Hand

Obviously, this next thing will really depend on where you are going on vacation. But if you are going somewhere completely remote, it’s so important that you check what kind of internet connection you have. This way, you will avoid any complications or stress while you are there. If you are worried about the internet connectivity at the hotel or its surroundings, you can look into other options such as a tethering plan with your smartphone, or use it as a wireless hotspot. Experts also suggest looking for a good, local coffee shop that will give you the connection you need for these bigger tasks. This is also a great option when you need a place to work with little to no distractions.

Set Boundaries

Working while on vacation isn’t the end of the world, but you shouldn’t be expected to answer every phone call or email that comes through. It’s a good idea to let your colleague know ahead of time that you will be on vacation and won’t be working regular hours.  You should also leave an automated out-of-office message and limit your work interactions. Do not overwork yourself, there is a reason why you are on vacation. There’s no point in being on vacation and completely stressed about work – especially if it’s not extremely essential. Pace yourself and enjoy your time away.
