In the 1980s, Geena Davis was a trendy commodity. When Beetlejuice and then Thelma and Louise launched her to box-office superstardom, it looked that she could do no wrong. In the 1990s, you couldn’t turn around in a supermarket without seeing Davis and her ex-husband Jeff Goldblum on the cover of a magazine. The Fly, their reboot of the horror classic, is revolting. The only real blemish on the ointment was Renny Harlin’s flop Cutthroat Island, guided by her now ex-husband. They created the film precisely to help Geena establish her career. It turned out to be a failure, and she was almost sunk as a result.
