Sheila the lion may just sound like a name at this moment, but very soon you will feel like you really know her. Sheila is a beautiful lioness who worked as a show animal for private parties for large periods of her life. Her previous caretaker couldn’t afford regular veterinary treatments, but she was saved by animal rights activists who got her what she needed. It seemed as though she was beyond help at this stage, and they worried she might need putting down. That was until a miracle occurred.

It was July 2009 when the U.S. Department of Agriculture rescued Sheila the lion. When Sheila was rescued she was weak, frail and very malnourished. She was given little to no chance of survival, but her rescuers wouldn’t give up on her. They wanted to give her the time to show she could recover.
