John Oens is an avid hunter who enjoys spending time in the woods. He had been out with his friends in the Wisconsin wilderness one day in November. The unbelievable happened while he was checking the traps he had set up. He was inspecting his coyote traps when he noticed that one had caught something larger than he had anticipated. The group couldn’t believe their eyes when they discovered this. Needless to say, this event forever changed their lives. Dealing with a wounded animal is never easy, but they had it even worse. It wasn’t a small coyote, either. It’s possible that if those teeth sunk into their legs or arms, they’d perish. What would they do with the creature they had discovered in the middle of the woods?

He Knew Exactly What To Do When He Saw A Trapped Wolf In His Coyote Trap
Facing The Wolf
For John Oens, the day started out like any other. When he inspected the trap he set up, the avid hunter, on the other hand, had no idea what he was going to find. He discovered a large timber wolf instead of a coyote. It was attempting to free itself after its front paw became caught in the trap. He was well aware that this was not a joking matter. He knew it would be foolish to attempt to free the wolf on his own because he might be attacked. John didn’t want his arm to be severed from his body. If it was in a bad mood, this massive creature could turn on him at any time. The young man was well aware that he was in a dangerous situation. There was no room for error in this situation.

Facing The Wolf
Drawing A Plan
There was no avoiding the fact that John was in a bad situation. He didn’t want to abandon the wolf alone. It’s possible that the animal will die from bleeding, exposure, or even chewing off its leg. None of the possibilities appealed to him. John needed to find a way to deal with such a complicated problem while ensuring that no one was harmed. It was fortunate that the traps were made to catch smaller animals. This one lacked teeth and instead grabbed the paw of whatever animal happened to walk through it. It was almost as if I was wearing a pair of handcuffs! It was difficult for any animal to escape its clutches without the help of humans. John needed to make a choice and figure out how to assist the wolf. He was not going to leave it alone.

Drawing A Plan
A Dangerous Creature
Coyotes and wolves, for example, may not be injured by the trap, but that does not mean they will be happy when caught. The wolf howled, not because it was in pain, but because of the circumstances. No one enjoys being entrapped. On top of everything else, the creature had to be perplexed. True, wolves, especially lone wolves, do not frequently attack humans in the wild. A trapped one, on the other hand, is more likely to act badly. If John was going to let the timber wolf out, he needed to remember this. Was the animal going to be grateful for his assistance or would it lash out at him? He had no idea what was going on.

A Dangerous Creature
Illegal To Hurt It
Did you know that the timber wolf is listed as an endangered species by the federal government? This meant it was on the verge of becoming extinct! Furthermore, killing it was prohibited in the state of Wisconsin. Shooting the animal was out of the question because if he was caught, he would face a fine and possibly jail time. There was only one thing to do in this situation. Although it was not the safest option, John had no choice but to let the animal go. He was almost as frightened and anxious as the wolf! The two of them exchanged stares, and it was clear that they both wanted the ordeal to end as soon as possible. Was John, on the other hand, certain that this was a timber wolf

Coyote Or Wolf
Many people are unable to distinguish between a coyote and a wolf. Outside, they may resemble each other, though wolves are larger. Both animals are the same color and have the same type of fur. You might mistake them for dogs if you’re looking at them from afar! Perhaps John simply misidentified his animals. This was brought up by one of his friends. They began to wonder if it was a wolf or a coyote. The friends began arguing with one another. Before deciding what to do, they wanted to figure out what kind of animal it was. Because of its markings and size, John was eventually convinced that it was a timber wolf.

Coyote Or Wolf
The Timber Wolf
Many people can’t tell the difference between a coyote and a wolf. Outside, they may appear to be the same, but wolves are larger. Both animals have the same color scheme and fur type. If you look at them from afar, you might think they’re dogs! Maybe John mistook his animals for something else. One of his friends mentioned it to him. They were unsure whether it was a wolf or a coyote. The friends began to quarrel with each other. They wanted to know what kind of animal it was before deciding what to do. John was eventually convinced that it was a timber wolf due to its markings and size.

The Timber Wolf
Men And Wolves
It’s not uncommon for humans to collide with wolves. There have been times in the past when things between wolves and humans have gone wrong. Wolves have been known to wreak havoc on farms and kill animals for no reason. They are despised by the farmers. Wolves, despite their reputation, rarely attack humans. Only rabid animals do this. While there have been instances of healthy wolves attacking humans, such incidents are extremely rare. It only occurs when they are in danger. Wolves usually avoid humans because they are afraid of them.

Men And Wolves
A Risky Situation
When John realized it wasn’t a coyote, he was even more terrified when he discovered it was a timber wolf. This is a situation that could go horribly wrong at any time. To free it, he had to put his life on the line. When dealing with wild animals, one must maintain a fearless demeanor. The entire time he was preparing to release the creature, his heart was pounding. This was terrifying, but it had to be done.

A Risky Situation
Help From Dad
John was accompanied by his father and a friend at the time. When his father joined him on the hunt, they realized they couldn’t leave the animal alone. They talked a lot about it. Of course, they tried to come up with a way to let the wolf go without harming him. The best solution was also the most straightforward. His father returned to the truck to get a gun and a piece of plywood. They required these in the event that something went wrong. They hoped everything would work out.

Help From Dad
Waiting For Dad
The wolf appeared to be becoming more at ease in the presence of these humans. The two remaining men stayed with the wolf while John’s father went to get the extra supplies. It eventually subsided. It was panting the entire time, so it must have been exhausted. John took a few steps around it to get a better look at the situation. He couldn’t afford to make a mistake in this situation. They needed to free the wolf as soon as possible because it could mean the end of them all.

Waiting For Dad
Thinking It Through
It hadn’t been long since they’d discovered the wolf in the trap, but John felt like it had been an eternity. It was difficult for him to remain patient and calm. This wasn’t your typical hunting problem, after all. He’d never done anything quite like it before. He had no idea if the plans would allow them to successfully free the wolf. He was well aware, however, that it would not be easy. This is where the rifle and the plywood enter the picture.

Thinking It Through
Plan In Motion
John started moving things forward. He took the plywood and went after the wolf. He kept the wood in front of him as a shield the entire time. If the wolf attacked, it should be able to defend itself. His friend, on the other hand, was filming the entire event. His father was nearby, ready to fire if the wolf decided to attack. They came prepared, but they had no idea what would happen. John got closer and closer…

Plan In Motion
Up to Him
Even though he knew exactly what he needed to do, he was still nervous. His father was ready with the rifle, but things could go horribly wrong. He might be dead before his father could shoot if the wolf dove for him. When the wolf is free of the trap, it has two options: attack or flee. They had no idea what was going to happen and no way of predicting it. They were ready for anything that could happen. John knew he had to keep moving forward with the rescue.

Up To Him
In 3… 2… 1…
His father tried to reassure him by saying that his rifle was aimed at the animal as he approached it. If it leaped, this was the only thing they could do to keep John safe. They didn’t have the luxury of time on their hands. John was as prepared as he could possibly be. He turned to face his friend, who was filming the whole thing. His friend could offer him nothing more than moral support. The time had come to put the plan into action.

In 3… 2… 1…
On Different Sides
On the plywood, there was a handy notch. Their plan was to get that past the wolf’s grasp. The plywood was then maneuvered and lowered over its paw by John. This was the general strategy. The notch was a perfect fit for the paw. The wolf, who was biting and scratching at the piece of wood, drew John’s attention. It was combative and ready to strike. Was it going to figure out that John was attempting to assist?

On Different Sides
The Veteran Hunter
Since he was a small child, John and his father have gone on hunting trips. He was used to hunting wild animals, but this was their first time in this situation. They knew the plywood would provide him with some protection. The plywood separated John from the wolf as he set up the trap. However, it could only protect him while the wolf was imprisoned. When it was free, nothing was going to stop it from jumping at him!

The Veteran Hunter
What He Found
During his previous trips, he encountered a variety of fascinating creatures. Many animals can be found in Wisconsin. He’d even seen a Canada Lynx at one point. In the woods, there were plenty of animals to see! He was taken aback by the size of the cat. Both the lynx and the wolf try to stay as far away from humans as possible. It was most likely caught while out hunting late at night. Its beauty drew John’s attention.

What He Found
Bobcat And Lynch
The two animals he caught have a lot of similarities. It wasn’t unusual for animals to get caught in his traps. It was bound to happen because there were so many bobcats in the woods he visited. When humans and bobcats come into contact, it’s usually because one of the animals is rabid or sick. In such situations, they usually start behaving badly. On top of that, they frequently eat smaller animals.

Bobcat And Lynch
Telling Them Apart
Bobcats are more common than lynxes in the wild. Because they’re both shy, they’ll try to stay out of your way. How can you tell what kind of animal a huge cat is if you see one? The majority of people confuse the two. You must first examine the ears. Long tufts protrude from the tips of a lynx’s furry ears. The bobcat, on the other hand, has short hair on its ears. Their tails, on the other hand, are distinct. A lynx’s tail has black tips with a white base, whereas a bobcat’s tail has black tips with a white base.

Telling Them Apart
Hungry Animals
Moving smaller animals like coyotes and raccoons is relatively easy, but moving larger animals is more difficult. The timber wolf had to be around 150 pounds! How were they going to get it moved? Timber wolves are possibly the most dangerous of the animals found in Wisconsin’s woods. They are difficult to catch and release. Many people will tell you that doing it safely is impossible!

Hungry Animals
Meeting A Wolf
Wolves rarely attack humans, but that does not make them any less dangerous. Never assume that it will flee and leave you alone. If you see one, remain motionless and wait for it to leave. It’s critical not to look it in the eyes. It will pursue you if you turn your back on it. Instead, yell and wave! Throwing a branch or a rock at it will also scare it away.

Meeting A Wolf
Releasing The Wolf
It was finally time for him to release the timber wolf. He was finally ready to do it. John was about to find out if he was going to live or not, with only the plywood separating them. The plywood did not go over well with the wolf. He became enraged and bit it, indicating that he was terrified. John set the trap in motion with his free hand. It was difficult for him to do it carefully.

Releasing The Wolf
Free At Last
Finally, he was successful in freeing the wolf’s paw! The wolf took a moment to spin around and then flew away. The three men were relieved that John was safe and the wolf had been set free. What a welcome relief! Everyone was relieved that the situation had been resolved without causing any harm. They were congratulating each other. His friend filmed the whole thing, and they were stunned by the wolf’s reaction.

Free At Last
A Last Look
They were able to see what the wolf was doing at the time because of the video. It took a moment to look at John as it dashed off into the woods. Could it have been an attempt to express gratitude? Although the video showed him the evidence he needed, John did not see it pause when it happened. It’s a good thing he made the right decision in the end. He was relieved to discover the wolf was still alive and well.

A Last Look
His True Feelings
John let the timber wolf out of the trap. It also revealed his feelings toward the timber wolf. He seemed to recognize that they could be as obnoxious as the coyotes who messed with them! Small wild animals and livestock are frequently attacked by timber wolves. They do it to frighten and agitate pets at times. John was aware of this because he had heard of wolves attacking domestic animals. He did, however, respect the fact that he was in wolf territory.

His True Feelings
Too Smart
Many people wonder why it’s so difficult to keep wolves and coyotes away from farms. Wasn’t it just as simple to construct a fence to keep livestock and pets safe? They can also dig and jump, which is unfortunate. Yikes! Aside from that, there is usually too much space for very high fences to cover everything. Wolves can leap up to six feet in the air. They can also navigate their way around fences and other obstacles.

Too Smart
Trapping Animals
John is a trapper, which means he uses animal traps to catch animals. They frequently use bait to attract and catch animals. The simplest way to do this is to use urine or its odor. Trappers prefer to use food and other bait when attempting to capture a coyote. Meat and dog food are popular choices. Wolves are attracted to the baits as well. They have such a keen sense of smell that they can detect food from a distance of several miles.

Trapping Animals
Other Animals
John is a trapper as well. He was attempting to capture coyotes one day in order to keep them away from local pets and farms. He is, however, accustomed to catching other animals. His baits appear to attract creatures other than his intended prey! He once caught a red fox, as you can see in the photo above. He also used a piece of plywood to free it to avoid injuries. It may be a small creature, but its bites are known to be infectious.

Other Animals
And Badgers Too
With the animals listed above, it’s reasonable to assume that John has caught everything he can. Who’d have guessed that smaller mammals are more aggressive than larger mammals? He once caught an American badger, a ferocious creature capable of fighting black bears. When dealing with this animal, John had to be cautious. They are dangerous because they are violent and fearless.

And Badgers Too
A True Pest
Badgers can be a major nuisance for people who live on farms. They frequently destroy crops, kill pets, and cause harm to other animals. They’re common in Wisconsin, and John was well aware of the havoc they wreak. Farmers and trappers use badger traps to try to keep the badger population under control. They are not suitable as pets, despite their fur. They have sharp claws and teeth! They also have a revolting odor.

Tips For Trappers
Do you want to go animal trapping? Regardless of whether you want to get rid of destructive pests or do it for fun, there are a few things you should always keep in mind. Trappers must first obtain a hunting license, so make sure you get one first. After that, you must exercise caution. If you’re not careful, your hand or foot might get caught in a trap!

Tips For Trappers
Fur Trading Industry
Faux fur is more popular these days than real fur. Is the trapping industry still in business today? And, more importantly, are people correct in believing that trapping should be prohibited? You should be aware that animals are hunted for reasons other than their fur. In fact, almost the entire body is put to use. The carcass is then used as animal food, bait, and even compost after the fur is sold.

Fur Trading Industry
History Of Trapping
The fur trade and trapping have a long and illustrious history. The fur trade has been going on since the 1700s! Trappers used to travel to the east to sell their wares in order to make more money. The demand for various types of furs was high. Furthermore, the west had become overrun with animals. Overhunting caused the animal population to decline, and the industry began to decline.

History Of Trapping
A Double Whammy
Many trappers discover strange things in the traps they set. John wasn’t the first person to notice something unusual. When one trapper discovered two baby pigs in his trap, it was a double whammy! How uncommon is this? The small animals had been destroying the community’s gardens and crops. They would have destroyed everything if they kept going! When they find free food, it’s difficult to get rid of the freeloaders.

A Double Whammy
Trapping A Bear
Even though small animals can be aggravating, larger animals can be even more so. This was discovered in a coyote trap by some trappers. It somehow managed to capture an enraged and violent bear instead. They needed to free the huge animal, which was aggressive and upset. This was a situation similar to John’s group’s, albeit more dangerous. They sought assistance from conservation officers.

Trapping A Bear
A Smelly Trap
We doubt you’re surprised to learn how bad a skunk can stink. They emit an odor when trapped and scared. This often gives trappers a heads-up on what happened before they even notice. The odor of the spray is so strong that it can be detected from miles away. Skunks, on the other hand, have sharp teeth and claws that can cause serious injury. Even the dead can do a lot of damage!

A Smelly Trap
Something Bizarre
There was a time when a bald eagle got caught in a coyote trap. A hiker found the large bird in Juneau, Alaska’s woods. She photographed the irritated fowl but later released it. Regrettably, the individual was eventually punished for tampering with someone else’s trap. A $500 fine was imposed on her! She then went to court but was excused because the judge admired what she had done. Unfortunately, due to its injuries from the trap, the eagle had to be put down.

Something Bizarre
The Poor Deer
We’re all aware that eagles are dangerous, and this photo provides all of the proof we need. The eagle in the photo clearly surprised the sika deer. In the end, the bird triumphed over the helpless deer. The golden eagle must weigh approximately 10 pounds, while the deer must weigh approximately 80 pounds. In the wild, these things don’t make much of a difference. After several hours, the owner discovered the dead deer.

The Poor Deer
Hog And Raccoon
Isn’t this picture hilarious?! It depicts something we would not be able to see with our own eyes. It’s a good thing there are night-vision cameras. It was set up by the landowner to see what was emptying the feeder. He had no idea what he was getting himself into. He discovered that the wild hog had eaten the corn, so he was correct. The hog, however, was accompanied by a raccoon! It shook the corn feeder until it fell out.

Hog And Raccoon
Squirrel And Deer
Another strange bond between two completely different animals can be seen in this photo. This deer was out for a walk in the woods. It clearly did not expect to be attacked from above by a flying squirrel. We’re not sure what the squirrel was up to, but the photo perfectly captures the moment. The deer had no idea what was going on, indicating that the squirrel’s ambush was successful.

Is That Bigfoot?
This photograph was taken by Roger Williams from Virginia. It may appear to be an ordinary photograph, but we want you to look closer. He captured a creature that resembles Bigfoot as described by the public. Many people believe the photo is a hoax in one way or another. Experts, on the other hand, confirmed that it is a genuine article. Despite this, many people remain skeptical of Bigfoot’s existence.

Coyote Tag Team
Wildlife cameras capture a plethora of fascinating moments. Because these events take place at night, we would never notice them with our naked eyes. Two coyotes are closing in on their prey in this photo. Although the coyotes won the dinner, it must have been a thrilling battle. Finally, everyone in the group got to eat their dinner. The idea that small coyotes can take on such a large animal is terrifying.

Making Trapper Money
If you’re interested, you’ll be relieved to learn that you can make a living as a trapper. This is how a lot of people make money. It may appear to be outdated, but if there is a will, there is a way. Jerry Ward is a professional in this field. Although he traps in the area, this Arkansas man also travels to Alaska every year. His furs are sold to Russia, China, and other nations. With his lucrative business, he earns around $30,000 per year.

Clint Locklear is a trapper who has achieved even more success. He turned his hunting and trapping expertise into a larger enterprise. In addition to trapping, he also runs a school where he teaches his craft. Among hunters and trappers, he is well-known. He’s been to a lot of events, and a lot of people want to learn from him. His students learn how to set traps and obtain high-quality furs from him.

The One-Eyed Hillbilly
Here’s another trapper who stepped it up a notch. Greg Stephens, also known as the One-Eyed Hillbilly, has been hunting since he was a small child. He is well-known in the hunting community, having grown up in the Ozarks. He began trapping when he was an adult. He has a lot of followers on social media! He posts the traps and kills he makes on his profiles. He kills primarily to feed himself. He travels to the Rocky Mountains and Alaska because those are the areas where he finds the best fur.

The One-Eyed Hillbilly
It Is Risky
It’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye, according to an old adage. That’s exactly what happened to him! Trapping is a fun pastime, but it is not the safest hobby to engage in. Greg Stephens discussed it on his blog. Trapping has left him with numerous injuries. While he has had bad luck in the past, he is not afraid to tell others about it. He wants people to understand what they’re getting into.

Free From Traps
Using traps does not sit well with everyone. However, there are numerous nuisance wildlife species that cause damage to property, livestock, and crops. What other options do you have? An organization is attempting to relocate animals without the use of traps. Leg hold traps are not acceptable to Wyoming Untrapped. Instead, they capture and humanely relocate animals.

The Necessity Of Hunting
This is a topic that has been heavily debated for a long time. Both the proponents and opponents of this issue make compelling arguments. However, your choice of side will be determined by your decisions and moral compass. Many people believe that hunting is a good idea. This is how we’ve done things since the beginning of time. They only have to follow a few rules and laws. However, some people consider it to be completely barbaric.

The Necessity Of Hunting
Not Only Pests
While some pests can be annoying and cause havoc, other animals are also affected. In fact, many domestic pets fall victim to these traps! Take, for example, this poor dog. It’s difficult to prevent something like this from happening, which is why caution is required. Many trappers, on the other hand, are adamant about not mentioning the fact that over four million pets die each year as a result of traps.

Not Only Pests
Mountain Lions Too
Coyotes aren’t all that trappers try to catch these days. For example, out west people have an issue with mountain lions. Though mountain lions usually stick to themselves, occasionally they visit suburbs in search of food…

Mountain Lions Too
Despite the fact that they are becoming increasingly endangered, many people have said that their numbers need to be controlled as a result of destructive behavior. Their population has been on the decline for some time, and currently there are only 30,000 or so left! How on earth did we allow this to happen?
Controlling Mountain Lions
This isn’t a sudden thing, unfortunately. Their population has been on the decline for some time. Destructive animals by nature, they can be intimidating and dangerous to those around them.

Controlling Mountain Lions
There is some debate over how we can control them. Some elect to trapping them, although this isn’t so regular. Considering their large size, we need to resort to special methods to combat this. Fortunately, it is illegal to kill them in many states.
A Big Cat
It is very possible that you haven’t seen a mountain lion before, but look below at just how large this cat can be! A male lion can weigh a whopping 220 pounds, whereas females are slightly lighter, weighing between 100-140 pounds.

A Big Cat
Just look at the mountain lion in all it’s glory! This cat could have certainly ripped this man in half had they had the chance.
Sports Hunting
Thus far we have already seen many hunters and trappers. The motivation for hunting tends to differ for each hunter. Many do it for money, some for food, while others are simply protecting their property. Some however choose to do it for pleasure and get the worse reputation as a consequence.

Sports Hunting
Here we have 19 year-old Kendall Jones, a girl who visited Africa for the sole purpose of sports hunting. After posting this photo next to a lion, she received much online criticism. She even claimed that she was a conservationist.
Walter Palmer And Cecil
In 2015, an American dentist cooked up quite a storm when he posted a picture next to beloved animal Cecil the Lion during a safari, a beloved lion that he had killed. He posed and posted it online.

Walter Palmer And Cecil
People claim that Palmer baited the lion out of the animal sanctuary. It was later revealed that he also used a bow and arrow to hunt the lion, meaning Cecil surely suffered.
Ernest Hemingway
Many historical figures were also big-game hunters. For example, acclaimed writer Ernest Hemingway was a hunter! He revealed that the sport was often an inspiration for his writing.

Ernest Hemingway
Hemingway hunted in many areas and frequently visited Africa for this specific reason. Despite finding himself in dangerous situations repeatedly, he remained fearless and kept coming back.
Theodore Roosevelt
Theodore Roosevelt may have been the president, but was also a fan of the outdoors and a big-game hunter too. Here you can see him with a hunted bull elephant in 1909, surely one of the biggest kills he’s made.

Theodore Roosevelt
Roosevelt once admitted to partaking in hunting because it gave him such a thrill. Even after his time in office, he went on a controversial hunting trip. Roosevelt killed hundreds of animals; from fish and birds to black rhinos, an animal now critically endangered.
The Presidential Sons
Former President Trump’s sons Eric and Donald Jr. are big hunters, a fact that has landed them in hot water on occasion. They have been harassed by animal rights activists many times for this controversial hobby.

The Presidential Sons
We know that wild exotic animals can draw up curiosity, but hunting like this doesn’t sit well with many, for good reason.
Sabrina Corgatelli
Corgatelli received criticism in 2015 after posting an image on social media of a giraffe that she had hunted and killed. Giraffes aren’t exactly dangerous creatures and it hurt animal lovers to see this.

Sabrina Corgatelli
Corgatelli tried to defend herself by saying the animal was dangerous, but many were rightly unconvinced.
Pro Or Anti?
Do you agree with hunting and trapping? You must have seen both sides of the story by this point, so what is the verdict?

Pro Or Anti?
There is one thing hunting for sport and another for protective reasons, such as protecting your home from a wild animal. Even then, you can deploy trapping methods rather than killing. We need to find a line! The following lioness had undergone a terrible experience too, one that just may shock you…Read on to find out!
Sheila the lion may just sound like a name at this moment, but very soon you will feel like you really know her. Sheila is a beautiful lioness who worked as a show animal for private parties for large periods of her life. Her previous caretaker couldn’t afford regular veterinary treatments, but she was saved by animal rights activists who got her what she needed. It seemed as though she was beyond help at this stage, and they worried she might need putting down. That was until a miracle occurred.
Saving Sheila
It was July 2009 when the U.S. Department of Agriculture rescued Sheila the lion. When Sheila was rescued she was weak, frail and very malnourished. She was given little to no chance of survival, but her rescuers wouldn’t give up on her. They wanted to give her the time to show she could recover.

The Suffering Lion
The U.S. Department of Agriculture rescued Sheila from a Texan entertainment center. Sheila was given the task of performing in high profile events and parties, earning her owner lots of cash in the process. Sheila wasn’t the only lion that they used, but she was the most popular and consequentially the one suffering the most. The caretaker of Sheila had been exceptionally cruel to his lions. “Once they’re no longer useful for this as well, he’ll throw them away and stop caring for them,” Keahey, Founder of In-Sync Organization, told.

Fortunately, Sheila now had an opportunity at a good life.
