In 1828, Andrew Jackson was elected President of the United States and served only one term. From 1829 until 1837, he served as President of the United States. He was taken prisoner by the British during the Revolutionary War when he was 13 years old. That’s right – he now holds the distinction of being the only President to have been a prisoner of war. Among other things, he was successful in preventing the secession of South Carolina and completing the repayment of the entire national debt during his tenure.
