A white lie is not worse than a black lie, right? Even the most minor lie can have far-reaching impacts. There are a variety of outcomes, ranging from changing your destiny to inadvertently deceiving someone for years to simply being permanently mistaken. White lies, regardless of how harmless they appear, can have terrible consequences. This article exemplifies this point by relating personal experiences about the impact of a simple lie.
Owning a duck shouldn’t be a convenient lie because it’s so simple to confirm or deny. If you own a duck, others will discover that you have it. Either way, if you say you have a duck when you don’t, people will soon find out. After informing his family that he had a duck and that they were overjoyed did he come to this decision. He got a real pet duck to escape the consequences of denying their delight. Is this how most people come to own a duck as a pet?
All Worked Out
Boys are said to be fickle and superficial in the things they say in order to impress girls they fancy. The result can sometimes be terrible if the assertions made in the initial stages turn out to be wrong. It may or may not ultimately work out, but the more you try to make it real, the better your chances of succeeding.
Consider this person, please. He lied to impress a girl, but when he discovered that, he set out to get in better shape, and that ended up working in his favor. This is a resounding success.
Asking for Help
In order to do it once, it is impossible to cheat in school. It looks as like you know what you’re doing if you’ve been successful once, but it appears to suspect if you don’t succeed the next time.
Even though you think you can do anything on your own, you should ask for help if you really need it. However, make sure people know that you didn’t achieve success on your own, but rather because of your ability. If people have unrealistically high expectations, then nothing will meet their expectations.
Ready to Move
Many of us know that not everyone wants to get active in politics. The list can go on forever. On the other hand, isn’t it better to let people know that you are from another country instead? It is simply too difficult to accomplish the goal.
He claimed to be Canadian when nobody expected it, but then he began to identify with his adopted homeland. It is not an ironic coincidence to deny it, but we are not saying that the lying caused it. Basically, how likely is it?
Do It for Love
It is not unusual for loved ones to turn their frustrations into crafts or gifts for their loved ones. The real question, though, is: Is it better to be honest or to lie about it? Keep an eye on your food; you might be eating a lot of things you don’t enjoy.
To spare Grandma’s feelings, we understand if you aren’t telling the truth, but are you speaking honestly? As a matter of course, she will want to create you things you like if she has a sincere interest in you. On the other hand, she might be even more devastated if she realized she had been feeding you something you detested for years.
Just What I Wanted
While the lie had no effect on the outcome in this instance, it has an ironic connection to the other circumstance. His coworkers inform him of the job offer, and he proudly proclaims to everyone that he can work from home.
As can be seen, he thought the position being presented was generous enough and thus accepted it, thereby making his falsehood a reality. This is amusing since things tend to turn out this way. As if it was not good enough, no one was hurt because of the lie, which is a wonderful convenience.
Have We Met?
People say that there are many people in the world who look just like you or who are extremely similar to you. That is why it is comprehensible when people frequently mistake you for someone else. It is because you allow them to keep mistaking you for someone else.
If a mistake is done by someone else, it does not matter if you state the truth or not. White lies are harmless, but they make dental visits more uncomfortable because of how we all lie during visits.
Might as Well Roll With It
If you find yourself in a difficult situation, you can make up a story to get yourself out of it. However, to be believed, you must actually follow through on your word. Once you learn that your lie led to an unexpected positive outcome, you begin to wonder if you were, in fact, involved in a devious plot.
And so, eventually, you simply come to terms with it and you go out and really do it, and the lie has no more hold on you. There’s undoubtedly something uncommon about getting started in a new career or hobby by participating in challenges like this, but does the idea behind it actually signify something?
Now a Skater Boy
Lying was common among children if you had to pick one age group. They tell white lies in order to avoid being punished, to gain favor with others, and, occasionally, simply for the joy of lying. This could be done, for example, by stating that one is a cool kid who skateboards.
Nonetheless, it is admirable in and of itself if they decide to turn that lie into a skill. Still, it’s preferable to admit you don’t know the talent but are eager to learn it than to master it in order to hide a lie.
Keep ‘Em Coming
It’s another another instance of someone pretending to like something and then living with it for years. Despite her distaste for lavender soap, a woman faked her enjoyment this time.
People would be unable to persuade others that their lie is their favorite if they were just a little less enthusiastic about it. Make it evident that it’s fine or that you’re having fun with it. Everything will go wrong if you confess your love for it.
My Friend Steve
This is another instance of name and identity confusion, however the victim was not the one who initiated the situation. Rather than that, after a young child addressed her wrongly, her father simply opted to address her by that name.
Steve is an uncommon female name, thus it’s possible that many people will stare at her strangely. It may be viewed as an inside joke for those who know it, but to those who don’t, it could mean absolutely nothing. Unfortunately, we cannot tell if she enjoys it as much as we do.
Well, if You Say So
We’re not sure how so many people on this list lied or kept a lie going to get a highly skilled job, and it didn’t backfire in the least. This individual was compensated handsomely for accepting a position for which he lacked qualifications!
He doesn’t say how long the lie went on or how well it eventually paid off for him, but we’re surprised it worked out at all. If the people in question were us, something like this seems unlikely to happen!
I Dabble From Time to Time
Telling lies about easily verifiable things is not a good idea. For instance, if you claim to have a certain skill, others can easily verify whether or not you do. After all, they can simply ask you to perform.
This kid escaped the situation relatively unscathed, but we’ll chalk it up to a good fortune. This is not something that should be expected on a regular, especially when telling such lies.
Yes, I Speak Computer
We’re impressed that this guy managed to lie about a technical job involving computers because that’s something that should reasonably require someone to perform complex everyday tasks.
Despite appearing to know very little about computers, he has obtained and maintained a job in that field for several years. Even if we disagree, that is a remarkable accomplishment.
Degrees, Who Needs ‘Em?
Almost all entry-level jobs nowadays require a degree, even though the reasons for this are frequently misguided. So, getting a career-level job without a degree is difficult… but not impossible. A lie can work if people don’t double-check.
Following that, you find yourself in a situation where people with degrees surround you, and they all misidentify you as one of them. Well, it’s not such a big deal if you can still complete the task, is it?
Guess I Can Switch
It happens constantly: you tell someone what you want to study in college, and they immediately pass judgment on you. So you tell a white lie and say you’re thinking about switching majors. That’s usually a lie to get them to stop bothering you.
In this instance, at least, he did end up changing his major to the one he was only using as a cover. Of course, that’s most likely correlation rather than causation, but it’s still a huge coincidence.
You Asked for It
Even though this situation is less likely to lie and more likely to be someone simply agreeing to sentiment to move a conversation along, agreeing to things you don’t mean is similar to lying. This man lied about his desire to have children.
Well, now he’s a father. In fairness, this is probably not an example of a lie that leads directly to the above result, but it is an example of someone who lied about something that only came to reality in the future.
Yeah, I Was There
Once you’ve had the opportunity to hang out with a celebrity, it’s a story you’ll want to share with all of your friends. And, in the end, such a story can be embellished, though this is not always the case.
And once this happens, the lie may have been repeated so many times and to so many people that crushing their hopes and dreams becomes impossible. So if you’re in this situation, we don’t blame you if you just let it happen.
When Did This Happen?
This story teaches both how to make assumptions and how to accept them. You’ll see what we’re talking about after you’ve read it. In this story, the man makes too many assumptions, but the woman accepts them.
Naturally, this causes a great deal of consternation among their friends and acquaintances, but it appears to have worked out in the end. Nevertheless, we want to be clear that this type of evidence should not be used to determine whether or not a lie will work.
The Thought That Counts
Even when people try to be courteous, your race or religion can be misidentified by accident. Therefore, to avoid future misunderstandings, you should correct them all at once. If you let them believe the wrong thing, you might end up like this.
Letting people give you religious celebrations for a religion you do not believe is bad. Simply put, it’s inconvenient. If you don’t correct them right away, it’ll be awkward later. Correcting people at the start of a conversation is preferable.
This Is What I Have Now
The next installment in our “unintentional collectors” series is now available. This time, the items being collected are Vera Bradley items. In all fairness, the woman in this story didn’t lie about anything, but she did use something she didn’t like out of politeness.
She ended up with a slew of Vera Bradley items due to her actions because everyone assumed she liked them. Because she owns so much Vera Bradley, she’s become known as the Vera Bradley girl. It’s simply a thorny situation that could have been avoided.
Reasons for Conversion
We don’t mean to imply that changing one’s religion requires a specific reason. Converting to Judaism based on a lie you told to avoid eating sausages, on the other hand, seems strange. At least it’s out of the ordinary.
We’re pretty sure the sausage incident wasn’t the real reason this guy converted, but it did seem to pique his interest in it as a religion to follow. Regrettably, we cannot speak for him.
Entering a Brotherhood
Joining the military is not for everyone. However, it’s difficult to tell him you’re not interested when your father served in the military. As a result, you might end up like this guy, who says he’s interested but doesn’t intend to join.
Things start to fall into place after that: your father assumes you want to join, you end up at a recruiting office, and you end up as a soldier in a foreign country. It appears to have worked out for this guy, but unintentional enlistment is probably best avoided.
Are You Talking to Me?
The wrong name mistakenly calls people for a variety of reasons. It’s usually because you believe it would be impolite to correct those who misidentify you. You want to correct them occasionally, but you can’t seem to find the right time.
Regardless of how it started, it usually ends up like this. If you wait until it’s too late, you won’t be able to say what you really want to say. Then, to your friends’ astonishment, you’re just a different name to that one person at that point.
No One by That Name
Some people have a hard time naming things. And, for some reason, some people find it difficult to correct others when it comes to their own names. They appear to believe that doing so would be impolite or rude. We’re not sure why they’re thankful for it.
On the other hand, feelings like these lead to stories like this: where you call someone the wrong name for years before realizing you were mistaken the entire time, causing a lot of confusion and strange realizations.
When You Assume…
The phrase “your old man” usually refers to your father. At least, that’s how we’ve always heard it. But, on the other hand, this man mistook the phrase for a reference to a husband, and thus, this woman unwittingly lied to him.
However, when she did find out, she continued to act as if she had a husband rather than admitting she had made a mistake. It doesn’t make sense to lie for an unknown time like this.
A Chocolate Orange
We’d like to emphasize that you have every right to tell your family if you don’t like anything. Appreciating and thanking them for their thoughtfulness is not impolite. You don’t have to pretend to like people to avoid offending them.
Because if you do, you could end up like this person, every year she scorns, who gets orange chocolate. So you grab a-holes, and the truth of how much you want or dislike it is increasingly difficult to tell.
Girl Gamers Don’t Exist, Right?
It’s a general stereotype in online gaming communities that there are no girls who play games, only guys who dress up as girls. Of course, we all know this isn’t true, but it doesn’t rule out the possibility of men impersonating women online. There is one such person right now.
He hasn’t yet informed his online friends that he is, in fact, male, but it doesn’t appear that his little lie is causing anyone any harm. On the other hand, his friends may still feel deceived.
Is This Legal?
It’s always nice to get free or discounted items, but if the only way to get them is by lying or supporting someone else’s lie, we’ll take a stand and say you shouldn’t do it, if only for legal purposes.
We don’t know how many legal difficulties you might encounter in claiming that you’re a first respondent when you’re not, but it seems like something for which you’d find a lot of trouble.
Faking Your Age
This guy also lied in World of Warcraft when he said he was older than another gender when he talked about people lying in online environments where the truth is hard to verify. After all, when you’re just 12, you can’t be cool online.
So you have to get older online to be cool. Then you’re in a situation where you don’t know how to tell all your friends you’re younger than they really are. We assume that you could crawl it down to a particularly long-winded prank.
A Weapon to Surpass Metal Gear
The internet joke is currently the most popular type of joke. However, to find it amusing, you must know a meme. Otherwise, just like any other joke, you won’t get it. Moreover, it is awkward when the jokes of your friend are not understood.
So you act as you understand it, then go home and look up a bunch of Metal Gear knowledge on the internet so you can follow along with all the jokes in the future. Regardless, you have never played any of the series games. So what kind of life is that?
Walked Into That One
Before the internet, when things could be looked up quickly and easily, there were other ways to call someone out on a lie. To see how they react, you could make something up that you know false. In this story, that’s pretty much how it went down.
Thankfully, the person in question wasn’t affected by either the lie that he told or the fact that it was discovered. This is probably the least impact anyone has ever received on this list, to be honest.
Joking Matters
Food allergies are a subject you should never lie about. It impacts many other people’s interactions with you when you lie about your food allergies. And if, as this individual did, you continue to lie for years, well…
It may not be as amusing as you do to your friends. After all, they worried that they accidentally hurt you all the time, and during the same time, you told them a stupid lie. But, of course, that’s not all right.
Do You Like Elephants?
Maybe this category should be renamed “people who become collectors because of a lie.” This man became a collector of Indian elephant statues due to his father and a medical patient. It’s best to collect things they disdain at the very least.
We’d even go so far as to say that this is one of the more intriguing accidental collection stories, but we don’t think anyone would be happy collecting something they didn’t want to collect.
He Looked Right at Me, I Swear!
If you come across someone like Stephen Hawking, who is so well-known that the entire world knows about them, you will want to tell everyone about it. But, like most people, you’ll probably embellish that story considerably because the truth is unlikely to be particularly interesting.
The good news for this man is that no one can dispute that his story is true. However, most people are unlikely to believe such an unlikely story to begin with, so it works both ways. Nevertheless, some people will, at the very least, believe it.
I Don’t Believe You
Lying is an issue of never knowing who knows the truth already. It’s always awkward, especially if you say a lie to somebody that knows that it’s a lie already. These people have learned the hard way to lie about their positions in football.
Luckily for them, this deception had no long-term negative consequences. Even so, they were almost certainly mocked or ridiculed for a short period of time, so there was still cause for concern. But, at the very least, it’s a slight inconvenience.
Oh Yeah, I Play
Seeing as instruments are so easy to verify, you should never claim to be able to do them. When you’re a kid, however, you don’t think about the consequences. So you say whatever comes to mind at the time. But, then, only when necessary do you tell the truth…
To cover up the previous lie, you could simply make up a new, equally ridiculous one. We hope no one ever challenges him to a life-or-death guitar duel since his friends still believe him.
For the Best
So, regardless of how big the lie is, you should probably not tell it, but some lies can be beneficial. We can’t say we’re not guilty of lying for the job he desperately needed.
Nevertheless, we have to note that this is an uncommon event, and you are far more likely than this guy to lie for a job to do wrong things. So he had somebody on his side who made a major difference.
Creamy or Chunky?
Some things simply aren’t worth lying about. It’s as if it’s peanut butter. Why would you deceive your spouse about your preferred peanut butter? In an attempt to win them over, these two ate their least favorite peanut butter while claiming it was their favorite.
They did it for years when all they had to do was be truthful about something as simple as peanut butter. You have the right to enjoy foods other than those enjoyed by your spouse: don’t like what you do and don’t like for something so trivial and insignificant.
Brought This on Yourself
You can only blame yourself when people start sending you gifts after you lie about what you like and don’t like. For example, this guy pretended to enjoy a show he didn’t watch, even though he didn’t.
People began sending him gifts related to the show because of his claims, assuming he would enjoy them. This just goes to show that pretending to like something when you don’t is pointless. What difference does it make?
Who Are You Again?
We’ve all gone through it: someone waves in your direction, and you mistakenly think they’re waving at you, so you wave back. It’s awkward when you realize they weren’t waving at you at all. Because some are waving in this scenario, it is a little different, but it was done intentionally.
These two had waved at each other for two years despite never having met. Yet, even though they were strangers, they continued to do it regularly, and they didn’t reveal their confusion until much later.
A Worthy Sacrifice
This is a sad story, but it demonstrates how small lies can have a long-term impact. This nurse told a patient she liked black coffee despite her dislike for it because she didn’t think it would make a difference. She began to drink black coffee every day as their friendship grew stronger.
If she had simply been honest about her coffee preferences, she would not have found herself in this precarious situation. However, her coffee misery was almost certainly worth the friendship that resulted in the end.
How Did We Get Here?
People lie during interviews. It can’t be avoided. Perhaps it’s because people lie, or perhaps it’s because job candidates are held to unrealistically high standards during interviews. In either case, people lie to increase their chances of landing a job.
You should not, however, lie about your abilities because they can be tested. He didn’t say whether he could keep his job or if they discovered him, but he ended up in a position for which he is completely unqualified. Is there a chance they’ll file a lawsuit as a result of this?
Yep, That’s Me
Whether you realize it or not, you can start lying, but once you have, you’re choosing to accept it regardless, which is just as bad. For example, at a fast-food restaurant, someone accidentally mistook him for someone else, which resulted in him getting free meals.
But, it turned out to be a lie, therefore you might want to avoid telling lies regardless of how great the potential benefits are. We may never know, but on the other side, perhaps we should have been honest with ourselves.
For Your Own Good
Lying has long been used as a means of handling peer pressure. We feel, however, that dishonesty is not the most ethical alternative, and this person could wind up like this. Although his lie was seemingly trivial, it sent him on a new and unexpected path.
Additionally, you could endanger your friends’ ability to make decisions on your behalf by not notifying them that something is possibly harmful for you when it isn’t. Very risky, of sure.
